This month’s featured track is Circle City BMX, located in beautiful Dothan, Alabama. Circle City opened its gates back in 1984, and Travis Roettgen took over as track operator close to 12 years ago. His favorite part of running this track is the community and supportive yet competitive vibe. “I believe we have built a program that helps to build each other up, yet competitive while racing,” Travis says, “So everyone is friends during practice and after the finish line but competitors from the gate to the finish line.” He also loves to watch the BMX racing spark grow in new riders. “My favorite part is seeing new kids to the sport after their first race. The huge smile they have makes everything worth the effort,” he says.
It’s not just the supportive racing community that makes Circle City a special track. Travis points out that their cross-over feature makes for a unique race experience. “The layout of our track is not like any other I have ever seen. We are the only track I know of that has a crossover,” he explains, “Our short second straight crosses over the first straight before going into the second turn.”
Travis says 2024 will be on the mellow side for Circle City. The track hosted Gold Cup Qualifier and State Qualifier races this month and will be focusing on building their already awesome program. He is stoked about the growth and says, “I’m looking forward to hosting several events to bring in new riders this year.” Heading to Circle City BMX to check out that cross-over and wondering where to get some good grub nearby? Travis suggests, “Hunts seafood, Firestone Grill, Season’s or Old Mill.”
