Introducing Ryan “RJ” Crawford! RJ joined the J&R National Team right before Grands in 2021 but his BMX journey started back when he was just about 4 years old. “My Dad bought a strider for me and took me to Okeeheelee,” he remembers, “Instantly I fell in love with the sport.” With over 10 years of riding experience, RJ knows how much practice and dedication it takes to succeed. “My favorite part about competing is getting that rewarding feeling when your hard work pays off,” he says. And he knows that feeling well. RJ says his proudest BMX moment so far, “is making Grands main."
Along with the thrills of BMX come its challenges and according to RJ the biggest is at the beginning of a race. “The most challenging part of BMX is probably the first straight,” he says, “because if you don't have a perfect one it is going to be hard for the rest of your race.” RJ says his favorite track to ride is Derby City in Louisville, KY, “Because it is such a fast-paced track and it’s like, all downhill.” As far as inspiration goes, he says Connor Fields is his favorite BMX rider. “I grew up watching his YouTube channel,” RJ explains, “I love his riding style and his determination.” Looking ahead, RJ is stoked for Worlds. “I am probably most excited about going to Worlds in Rock Hill, SC,” he says, “because I get to meet and race people from all over the world.”
We look forward to seeing you up on the podium, RJ! Best of luck from the whole J&R Family!
